KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior pitcher Justin Zinkovich was named to the Baseball Preseason All-America team, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Friday. Zinkovich was one of only 17 players who earned preseason honors as selected by NAIA All-America Selection Committee.
Zinkovich joined the Eagles’ pitching staff in 2009 after playing for two seasons for Coach Tim Hill at Manatee Community College. He rolled through the regular season posting a perfect 11-0 record which earned him Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year honors. He picked up two additional wins in the postseason before suffering his only loss of the year at the NAIA World series, closing out his junior campaign with a 13-1 record. Zinkovich started in 17 games for the Eagles, pitching 116.1 innings with a 2.32 earned run average and 95 strikeouts. He finished ranked first in the NAIA in wins, eighth in innings pitched per game (6.843) and 14th in ERA.
The Eagles will look to Zinkovich to lead them back to the top of The Sun Conference in 2010. They open the season on the road at Tampa on Feb. 2 before returning to Sliwa Stadium for their home opener against Brewton-Parker on Feb. 5.
