DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –The Embry-Riddle men’s soccer program announced that Overland Park, Kan. native Erik Norburg will play for the Eagles beginning in the fall of 2010.

Norburg played four seasons at Blue Valley North High School where he served as team captain in 2009 and was a member of the Kansas 6A State and regional championship team in 2007. He was a second team All-East Kansas selection in 2008 and 2009 and was an All-Northeast Kansas Soccer Coaches Association second team honoree in 2009. Norburg also played club soccer for KCFC Alliance in 2005 and 2006 and helped his team to the Kansas State Cup title in both seasons and the regional semifinal in 2006. He spent the last four seasons playing for Paul Rideout’s KC Wizards Juniors who won State Cup titles in 2008 and 2009 and made it to the finals in 2007.

Norburg also got the job done in the classroom. He was named to the Principal’s Honor Roll all four years and participated in the Center for Advanced Professional Studies engineering program with Black and Veatch.

“Erik has a very good soccer and academic background,” ERAU head coach David Gregson stated. “Having played in the Kansas City Wizards organization Erik understand the rigors of high level soccer and has proven that he is more than capable of handling himself in these pressure situations.  Academically Erik has excelled thus far and we will be looking for him to continue his development in the classroom.  His strong academic and athletic background made him an ideal candidate to continue the Embry-Riddle men’s soccer tradition.”

Norburg will be majoring in Civil Engineering at Embry-Riddle.
