DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - History was made this past weekend on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where 43 straight hours of wiffle ball were played to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
More than 150 participants worked together to break a Guinness Book of World Records for longest wiffle ball game. The three-day event began at 10:10 pm on Friday night after ERAU's women's soccer game and continued on until 5:10 pm on Sunday evening.
Assistant Director of Marketing Mike Farrell got the idea from a minor league baseball club who attempted the feat last year but were forced to cancel because of weather. Embry-Riddle made sure weather was not a factor as the game was played indoors in the John Paul Riddle Student Center.
Participants were asked to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation and then were placed on one of two teams: blue or green. The blue team managed a slim victory over the green team 454-452 in 250 innings. The event raised over $400.
