LONGWY, France – Sophomore Eric Lorenzi posted a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Embry-Riddle men’s basketball team to a 77-70 win over Longwy Behon on Thursday. With the win, the Eagles closed out their European tour at 5-0 as they were undefeated against second division professional teams.

Lorenzi was the game’s high scorer, while Longwy’s Biela finished with 21. Ryan Ridder was the game’s assist leader with seven.

Embry-Riddle was the victim of numerous fouls calls in the first quarter, including six in the first four minutes of play, which sent two starters to the bench for the remainder of the first quarter and much of the second.

In addition to the high foul count, the Eagles shot only 28.6 percent from the field in the first quarter. But they still managed a two-point lead at the end of the quarter, thanks in part to poor shooting from the charity stripe by Longwy, who went 8-for-18.

The first three and a half minutes of the second quarter saw two ties and three lead changes. But then the Eagles went on a 19-2 run over the next 4:28 to take an 18-point lead. Denver Cobb tallied 10 of his 17 points, while Lorenzi tacked on six to put the Blue and Gold up 41-23. But Longwy went on a nine-point run of their own to go into the halftime break down 41-31.

The Eagles scored seven of the first nine points of the third quarter to build the lead back up to 17.The Eagles found themselves in foul trouble again in the third quarter, which allowed Longwy, who scored nine points in their 13 trips to the free throw line, to pull within five points.

Both teams were evenly matched in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles outscored Longwy 18-16 as all five starters scored in the final period to seal the win.

Thursday’s game concludes the European tour as the Eagles depart Brussels for France on Friday and will return to the U.S. on Sunday. The Eagles open their 2007-08 regular season slate on Nov. 3rd when they host the College of the Bahamas at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach.
